I'm looking to purchase an external CD burner for my computer. It currently does not have one, and I need to save some stuff to CD to save space on my PC. Does anyone have one they wish to sell, or know where I can get a good quality one cheap? Thanks!!

Hi Katie,
Try going to www.overstock.com. They usually have good prices on stuff.

best place I can recommend for you is Bestbuy.com. They'll probably give you a damn good USB burner for fairly cheep...

see thing is though, you've asked for something that can be cheepened only so much. You're better off trying to buy an internal one...

What do you mean Maddog? I'll check out those sites...thanks. And, I don't think it's possible to get an internal one on my PC...I don't know...we'll see... Keep the ideas coming!!

Try ebay, don't let the used thing put you of, coz its in the sellers interest to give you non faulty goods, because it looks bad on him if he does, use this link:

I looked at usb ones, and your looking at around £25 (%50).
But for £1.25 (%2.5) you can get a soney internal one.

Internal drives may indeed be good, but they're only useable to you if you have a free drive bay. If you currently have a CD-rom drive in your computer, you can swap that drive out for the new CD-Burner if you don't have any free drive bays (slots to put the drive in).
You may also want to consider DVD-RW drives, as they are fairly cheap now (90 to 150 dollars avg.) A Dual-Layer DVD burning drive will get you about 8.5 GB per disc, but those discs will cost a premium.
If you want an external burning drive, make sure your computer supports USB 2.0, elsewise you'll be getting slow throughput, which equates to slower burning times. A USB 2.0/Firewire card costs about 30 to 40 bucks from walmart.com.
It all comes down to what you can and can't support or afford. If you have the money, definitely go for a DVD-R/RW +DL (dual layer) drive. It'll cost you about 35 bucks for a pack of 3 to 5 Dual Layer rewriteable DVD media.
If you're not willing to spend that much cash, get a cd-rw drive, but make sure it's at least 48x. You can get 100 CD's from walmart for 22 bucks. I'd suggest getting internal if possible for both drives, as that'll reduce clutter and the chances of having cords and connectors broken or otherwise damaged. It also eliminates another cord: the power cord. Most external drives require additional power that USB can't provide (for the motors, presumably).
